Rosenwald Elementary held its annual Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops event sponsored by the American Heart Association on Friday, March 29, 2019. Students participated in various activities to get their hearts pumping. Ms. Wendy Carnes, Rosenwald’s PE teacher, enlisted the aid of First Student bus drivers for the event.
What really made this year’s event special was that the Rosenwald family honored the life of Mr. Marlon “Meatball” Jones, a lifelong resident of New Roads. Marlon volunteered his time and talent to assist Ms. Wendy Carnes with various extracurricular activities and other school functions for many years. Marlon lost his battle to heart disease last year, and his loss is deeply felt by the school and community. Marlon’s mother, Ms. Rita Jones, and his sister, Stacey Jones-Rayford, attended on Marlon’s behalf to support our event. Ms. Rita Jones’ family alone raised over two hundred dollars for the American Heart Association.
In total, Rosenwald Elementary raised $823.00 to further the cause of the American Heart Association in fighting heart disease. The faculty, staff, and student body enjoyed the event, and it was a huge success.
