Valverda Is Ready to “Kick Up Kindness” This School Year!

Valverda Is Ready to “Kick Up Kindness” This School Year!

Our school year is off to a great start with 517 students on our campus! This school year we are focusing on growing academically and building a positive school climate.

Our students in PreK - 2nd grade are continuing the trend from last school year of growing a school-wide reading culture. Our students are working hard to grow their reading levels in order to become better readers! Our students in 3rd - 6th grade are continuously working to build their math and reading skills to master the standards for their grade-level.

In building a positive school climate, the  “Kindness Challenge” has been implemented. Students are encouraged to “Kick Up Kindness” in the classroom, playground, cafeteria, and sidewalk. Teachers and students are working hard to build strong relationships, make better choices, and be positive role models.

This school year we are also focusing more on building a strong community of learners through family and community engagement opportunities.  As a school, we know the importance of involving families in student learning. Parents of students in PreK - 2nd grade will have a monthly opportunity to attend “Books with Breakfast.”  Families of students in 3rd - 6th grade will have the opportunity to spend time in the classroom as we implement “Learn with Me.” This is a great way to transfer the learning that takes place in the classroom into the home.

We had a great turnout for our first family engagement events of the school year! On September 4 and 5, parents, grandparents, and family members enjoyed spending time with students learning and reading! Over 75 family members attended over the 2 days!  We are looking forward to the continued success of our family engagement opportunities and to another great year!
