Rosenwald Elementary School Second Graders Dive Into Sports Fiction

Rosenwald Elementary School Second Graders Dive Into Sports Fiction

As our second graders begin their Sports Fiction Literacy unit, they will learn from rich fiction books about the many valuable lessons sports, such as basketball, can teach us both on and off the court!

On Friday, January 10th, our second graders were so excited to learn from former Livonia High School Wildcat Jeremy Richard about what it takes to achieve your goals. Jeremy is currently playing basketball at Oakleaf Post Grad Basketball Academy in Florida and was recently awarded the honor of Most Valuable Player at the 2019 Post High School Basketball Association West Florida Invitational. Our students were able to ask questions about what it takes to achieve goals and meet a great role model!

Also, on Tuesday, January 14th, New Mexico State University linebacker Javahn Furgurson, a graduate of Southern University Laboratory School and the nephew of Rosenwald 2nd grade teacher Annette Walker, came in to speak to our students about the importance of education, being respectful, hard-work, and following your dreams.

Thank you to Jeremy Richard and Javahn Fergurson for taking the time to visit and inspire our scholars!
