Math games are always fun! Games give students opportunities to explore fundamental number concepts, such as the counting sequence, one-to-one correspondence, and computation strategies. Engaging mathematical games can also encourage students to explore number combinations, place value, patterns, and other important mathematical concepts. They also promote cooperative learning, which are skills that are needed to work and get along with others.
At Rougon, 7th grade builds math fluency with integers by “battling” it out with a partner. For this math game the red cards represent negative numbers and the black represent positive numbers. Each round consisted of a different operation (addition, subtraction, and multiplication) (Standard: 7.NS.A.1)
